Just wanted to make a post so people understood what it actually takes to keep a crafting toon busy during a crafting invasion week. Saw the comment and saw chat this weekend about people competing for the "prize" money for being top crafters and just wanted to put things in perspective.
We craft our butts off to beat the other guilds, because we are a conquesting guild. The prize money is just an additional incentive the "cherry" on your win cake. It will by no means pay for what you put into the crafting week with just a single toon if you do it efficiently.
Below I will completely break down what it "takes" to craft like your life depended on it. You may have seen some people in the guild put up 10+ mil conquest points in a single toon! That is impressive because they stayed on top of their toon keeping the comps crafting. So yes it is possible for a single legacy with 8 toons to put up 80 MIL in conquest points in a single week! (and if you look at the conquest scores you will see that is just 14 mil or so short of what the entire guild put up this week). But it will cost you a whole lot. Here is the breakdown:
Scenario: You are making "starship weapons" as a war supply for conquest. You have 8 level 50 comps. That war supply, for this example, needs polished aluminum arms and Farium Arms Assembly Components (4 of each) to craft 1 war supply. Farium Arms Assembly Components require 2 Farium and 2 Molytex plus 2 Vanadium Flux. Polished Aluminum Arms Assembly Components require 2 Polished Aluminium and 2 Polished Laminoid plus 2 Endothermic Flux. Vandium costs 1200 and Endothermic costs 800.
So per war supply, you need a total of 8 of each of the mats listed above:
Polished Aluminium: 8
Farium: 8
Polished Laminoid: 8
Molytex: 8
Vandium Flux: 8
Endothermic Flux: 8
Quick math, you have 8 comps at level 50 so they pop out 4 war supplies each per hour, or 32 components per hour (counting toward conquest...yes crit makes more but crit doesn't make more conquest points).
So requirements for mats PER HOUR are:
Polished Aluminium: 256
Farium: 256
Polished Laminoid: 256
Molytex: 256
Vandium Flux: 256
Endothermic Flux: 256
For the curious, if you were up every 1.25 hours to setup your comps to do crafting instead of, you know, sleeping, showering, eating, having a life, the conquest week gives 144 conquesting hours (assuming instant invasion after reset and all). That means each of the above components needed changes to 36,864 - and that is to sustain a single toon crafting for the invasion week. Now, let us pur more realistic things on this, saying you sleep 8 hours per day but are "up" on your crafting for the rest of the week gives 95 crafting hours, which means 24,320 mats of each of the above needed...again to sustain a single toon crafting for the invasion week.
IF you are gathering all of your mats, so you pay nothing (except your time...you can imagine what kind of time it will take to get 24,320 of 4 different mats - assuming you sleep), then the only "expense" you have is the Vandium Flux and Endothermic Flux. Vandium Flux will cost you 29,184,000 (or about 29 MIL) and Endothermic Flux will cost you 19,456,000 (or about 19.5 MIL) - you HAVE to buy these somewhere (even if you get them from missions you send comps out on it will cost you about this amount). So, at a minimum you will spend 48.5 MIL on the crafting mats you HAVE to pay for, for a SINGLE toon to sustain crafting the entire invasion week.
For comparison, if you took ALL those mats and sold them at current GTN prices instead of using them on crafting, this is the result:
Current GTN prices is 2500 per Farium, 1300 per Molytex, 1950 per Polished Laminoid and 1950 per Polished Aluminium. With 24,320 mats selling them on the GTN would yield you:
Polished Aluminium: 47.4 Mil Made
Farium: 60.8 Mil Made
Polished Laminoid: 47.4 Mil Made
Molytex: 31.6 Mil Made
Vandium Flux: Saved 19.5 Mil
Endothermic Flux: Saved 29 Mil
So, crafting ONE TOON maximum for a week will COST you at least 48.5 Million credits, while SELLING the mats you gathered will MAKE you 187.5 Million credits.
Assuming you crit 25% of the time while crafting war supplies, and you craft the highly needed Crystal capacitors and Holocron of Strategy, and sell them at the ideal time on the GTN during the crafting week, and they all sell, after a crafting week using the above numbers, you SHOULD have 40 per hour (remember per HOUR you make 32...with crit that should be 40) you should have 3800 total war supplies after the week. Holding them and selling them at the best time during another crafting week, the price fluxuates between 55k and 80k per, so you could make between 209 Million and 334.4 Million credits selling these items after you make them. Subtract the 48.5 Mil you put into making these things and you come out with a very nice profit margin.
Given those numbers, do not look at prize money as the prize. Look at conquesting and kicking every other guilds butt as the reward. Keep an eye on the GTN and craft the war supplies that best sell and your "Prize" will be gloating rights and between 150 and 270 Mil profit for your time investment in gathering all of those mats....because that's one helluva time investment to get the 24,320 mats x 4 to do this. And remember, this is on just ONE toon!
Crafting weeks are big conquest numbers, and can be huge money makers for those who do it right.
Also please try to enjoy yourself.
