Guide to the Ancient Threat Fight
Part 2 - THE FIGHT!
Step 2: THE FIGHT!
Location of the Ancient Threat Boss on Yavin 4:
THE BOSS FIGHT:
- You need everyone in raid to have the Ancient Knowledge buff from the Ancient Tome in the Outlaw’s Den of Tatooine to be able to damage him. (See Step 1 Buffs).
- This boss requires at least 16 people to kill. Recommended to have more than that including: 2 main tanks to taunt swap, 1 spare tank in case one of them dies, and at least 5 to 6 healers. One of the healers will be doing nothing but cleansing the tanks behind the altar, but that part will be explained later.
- The Ancient Threat has 15 mil HP, so it will take some time to kill it, but there is no enrage and no DPS push necessary to do so. If you die, you need to instantly revive to the med center and run back. As soon as you get back to the clearing, before entering combat, put out a flagship group summons so that others who die can travel back instantly. When you die, be sure to take advantage of any summons that might be up to return quickly to the fight.
- Before the fight starts, position one healer as far back as possible against the cliff behind the altar. This healer’s job is to stand as far back there as they can, and cleanse the tanks that will be running back to them after a taunt swap. This healer should wait until the tank is RIGHT on top of them to cleanse, or it will silence the entire group (the range is devastating!). They should also heal the tank up until the point that they are using their cleanse, because after cleansing they will be silenced for 6 seconds.
- Someone with all of the Yavin buffs will click the altar to summon the boss, and the tanks will then start to gain aggro. It is best if the DPS waits at least 10 – 15 seconds before damaging him at all to give the tanks plenty of time to gain threat. Again, there is no DPS check so there is no hurry in terms of damaging him, and it is more important that the tanks gain proper threat or else it will wipe the group.
- The boss has 3 main debuffs that he puts on the players during the fight. They are:
Silenced – Lasts 6 seconds, unable to use any abilities. This debuff engages every time a stack of Force Whisper is removed from a player. For this reason it is ESSENTIAL that NO ONE but the healer behind the altar uses any cleanse ability at ANY point in the fight. Doing so will cause a wipe. Cleanses include: Evasion (Agent), Force Shroud (Assassin), Force Barrier (Sorc), or any of the basic cleanse abilities. These abilities should be removed from the toolbar of every single member of the group except the one healer charged with cleansing the tanks.
Force Whisper – Lasts 15 seconds per stack, Healing received reduced. This debuff is only applied to whomever has the aggro of the boss (ideally, only the tanks). At the precise moment that the tank has the 6th stack of this debuff applied, the other tank should taunt and take aggro. The tank with 6 stacks will use whatever movement ability they can to get back to the healer behind the altar for a cleanse before any of the stacks fall off and silence the group. You have 15 seconds from the time the 6th stack is applied to do this, so you have to be ready to run the second it is applied.
Force Leech – (no duration timer), Area of effect damage increased. This is the raid-wide debuff that most everyone will have stacks of during the fight. These are applied when you stand in a red circle that the boss puts on the ground and should be avoided whenever possible. This fight is a HUGE healing check, and the more stacks of this you have the harder it is to heal the group and this can also lead to a wipe if you don’t watch your feet as much as possible.
ROLES:
TANKS – It is your sole job to maintain threat on the boss and taunt swap at 6 stacks of Force Whisper. You will be kiting the boss around in front of the altar, doing your best to stay out of red AOE Force Leech circles. When you are the tank who has 6 stacks of Force Whisper, you will call from a taunt from the other tank, pop whatever movement increase abilities you have and run back behind the altar to receive a cleanse from the Healer positioned back there. You need to reach the Cleansing Healer and be standing on top of them before your stacks are cleansed, so you need to be sure you reach that point before a stack falls off you. If you have a stack drop because you haven’t moved fast enough to get in position for the cleanse, it will silence the group fighting the boss and cause a wipe. The timing on this is not that tough once you’ve done it, but it is crucial to the success of the fight.
HEALERS – It is your main priority to heal the Tanks. DPS can revive and return to the fight, but you MUST keep the tanks alive and yourselves as well. All healing priority is given to the tanks, followed by yourselves. You will also need to be sure to move around as much as possible to ensure low numbers of Force Leech stacks from the red AOE Circles. Combat revive abilities should be reserved for TANKS ONLY. If you die, revive to the med center and run back, throwing out a flagship summons when you reach the clearing before returning to battle. If there is a flagship summons available, take it and return to the fight ASAP to keep the tanks alive.
*CLEANSE HEALER – It is your sole job to cleanse the tanks when they run back to you behind the altar with 6 stacks of Force Whisper. You need to heal them up as they run back to you, and once they are standing right on top of you, cleanse their stacks before any fall off. Cleaning too early will silence the group fighting the boss and cause a wipe. Cleansing too late and letting a stack fall off the tank on the way back to you will silence the group fighting the boss and cause a wipe. The timing on this is not that tough once you’ve done it a few times, but it is crucial to the success of the fight.
DPS – It is essential that you REMOVE ALL CLEANSES from your ability bars. Check your utilities for anything that cleanses you on use and choose a different utility for this fight! DO take any utility that reduces AOE damage. You will wait until the tank calls for DPS to engage the boss at the beginning of the fight so that you do not pull threat (which will wipe the group). You will be moving around as a group as much as possible to receive AOE healing, but avoid the red AOE damage circles on the ground. Use your threat dump on cooldown. If you die, revive to med center and run back, throwing out a flagship summons when you reach the clearing before returning to battle.
